Prairie View, Texas - The Southern University women’s track and field team concluded the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Sunday evening. After three days of competition, the women finished sixth at the SWAC Championships with a total of 62 points.
"A lot of people stepped up and that's what a team is," said head coach Teremine White.
Senior Faith Estelle made her last meet one to remember. Estelle not only finished with a gold medal but she also is the new meet record holder with a throw of 56.50 meters. Estelle will have one last chance to make regionals this upcoming weekend at the Last Chance meet at McNeese Track in Lake Charles, La.
Sophomore Jazmine Young took first in the Javelin throw with a throw of 41.03. If you recall earlier this season I mention that Young was injured last year with a knee injury. Young stepped up this weekend and scored ten points for the women's team.
The women's 4x400-meter team, Terrilcia Mercadel, Ashley Miles, Toni Carter, and Raelynn Price placed second with a personal record time of 3:43.95.
The Jaguars will head to Lake Charles, La for the Last Chance meet for two athletes that are capable of making regionals. Faith Estelle will have a chance to compete one last time in the hammer throw.
