Two Jaguars Set Lifetime Personal Records

AUSTIN, Texas - The Southern University Track and Field team concluded the 92 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday, March 30 with the women's 4x400-meter relay. Two SU Track and Field athletes set a lifetime personal records during the Texas Relays and Texas State meet.
"We had two athletes who had lifetime personal records, Faith Estelle at the Bobcat Invitational in the Hammer Throw and Derrick Garner at Texas Relays in the 100-meter dash."
"It's always great having athletes doing well leading up to our championships meets," said head coach Teremine White.
Senior Faith Estelle is ranked number one in the Southwestern Athletic Conference after throwing a huge personal best throw of 54.39 meters (178'05") at the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State University. Estelle is the first to throw this distance in the SWAC in over ten years. Estelle's previous record was set at the Southeastern Dual meet March 22, with a mark of 53.52 meters.
Junior Tessa Tony took sixth in her heat in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.61. Tony sits fifth in the SWAC conference with a time of 1:04.16.
Junior Nia Williams finished sixth in her heat with a time of 12.15 in the 100-meter dash. There was a headwind of 2.1, Williams actual time was 12.14. Williams who ranks fifth in the SWAC conference with a time of 12.09. Williams, also ran the 100-meter hurdles, taking third in her hear with a time of 14.97. This is Williams second time running the hurdles in the outdoor season.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team including; Nia Williams, Terralicia Mercadel, Tony Carter, and Ashley Miles ran a time of 47.41 and finished 30th overall.
Junior Derrick Garner ran a personal best time of 10.70 placing 4th in his heat. Garner sits eleventh on the SWAC performance list.
The men's 4x100-meter relay including; Derrick Garner, Artis McCoy, Kirkland Hills, and Heisman Woods, ran a time of 42.02 and finished 25th overall.
The Jaguars will be back in Lake Charles, La for the second time this season on April 6 at Bill and Lena Henning Track and Field Complex on the campus of McNeese State University for the McNeese Spring Time Classic.
