Southern women's tennis fell 7-0 to Southern Miss Saturday Morning at the University Courts.
The Lady Jaguars opened the match battling for the doubles points. With the doubles team of Darnesha Moore and Gabrielle Moore engaged in a 5-5 tie, the Lady Jaguars dropped the doubles point after Morgan Taylor and Kendall Bunch fell 6-2 to Claudia Castella and Lisa Schneider and Nicki Neal and Camara Davis lost 6-3 to Kathrin Waidner and Elena Roca.
The Golden Eagles managed to secure the first three points of singles play in straight sets as Elena Roca ousted Nicki Neal 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6, Alex Kitchen defeated Camara Davis 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Carolin Drescher clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Laura Syori at No. 2.
The final three single matches saw Southern pick ups set wins before losing falling in the third and decisive set. Morgan Taylor fell to Karina Gurgenyan 2-6, 6-2, 4-6 at No. 4. Senior Gabrielle Moore opened her match with a 6-4 win over Claudia Castella before losing the final two sets 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3.
Darnesha Moore battled Lisa Schneider to a third set after winning her first set as well but dropped the next two sets 7-5, 10-6.
Southern returns to the court Feb. 21 when the Lady Jaguars travel south down Interstate 10 to face New Orleans at 11 a.m.
