BATON ROUGE - Southern University Men's and Women's cross country recorded their third meet Friday evening competing in the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge, La.
The women competed in a very hilly 5k this evening. In this evening's race, the women went up against top schools including, LSU, Tulane, and Nicholls State. Southeastern was the only new team this week that they didn't compete against last weekend.
Sophomore transfer, Chantaya Griffin placed in the top 20 out of 40 competitors with a time of 20:34.46. Griffin is the one to look out for as the women's team approach the 2019 SWAC championships.
The men dominated this week's hilly course as they got to run a 5k instead of a 6k in this evening's meet. The men placed 4th out of 5 teams again this weekend, beating Nicholls State for the second time this season.
Sophomore, Nicholas Scott finished in the top 20 out of 48 participants with a time of 16:08.37. Transfer junior, Tallan James finished right behind Scott with a time of 16:14.62.
Ja'Mya Verdun, Nicholas Scott, Tallan James, Nickson Kipleting Muhindi, Keshuan Javois, Lafayette Collins, and Austin Martin all set personal records in this evening's meet.
The Jaguars will have one more meet before Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship. After a weekend off, the Jaguars will head to Clinton, MI for the Watson Ford Invitational on October 12. This will be the same site as the SWAC Championship.
