BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s volleyball tournament is set for November 20-22 in Baton Rouge, La. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Clifford Seymour Gymnasium and the Horace H. Moody Intramural Center on the campus of Southern University. The top four teams from the eastern and western divisions (eight total) have qualified for the tournament based on conference records.

Jackson State clinched the 2015 SWAC Eastern Division title with a 3-1 win over Mississippi Valley State on November 10 in Itta Bena, Miss. The Tigers collected their first regular season title in three seasons, the last in 2012, as Taija Thomas paced the squad with 12 kills as Mikayla Rolle posted 11 putaways, five digs and two blocks. Jenna Siddiqui dished out 23 assists and tallied eight kills while Karmen Jackson collected 15 digs. Thomas is second in the SWAC averaging 3.21 kills-per-set as Siddiqui averages the second-most 7.18 assists this season.

Texas Southern collected the West Division on November 14, with a straight-set victory over Grambling State. Kali Fluke led the way with 12 kills as Robyn Shannon chipped in eight putaways and 12 digs. Chelsea Thompson sent out 16 assists, seven digs and two kills as Audriana Carson posted eight kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces. Allison Woods collected nine digs, one ace and one assist. Fluke paces the conference with a .316 hitting percentage, tallying 277 kills with 81 errors in 620 swings. Her putaway total (227) puts her third in the SWAC while her 106.0 total blocks (39 solo, 67 block assists) is the second-most this season.

Match 1: Southern (West #2) vs. Alabama A&M (East #3), 11:00 a.m. at Clifford Seymour Gym
Alabama A&M defeated Southern on October 17 by a score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21) at the SWAC Round Up. AAMU’s Ashundria McNeal posted 21 kills, seven digs and three service aces while Drea Matthews chipped in 12 kills, six digs and two blocks. Megan Butler dished out 38 assists and 12 kills in the contest. SUBR’s Paige Hall tallied eight kills and six block assists as Leila Lealaimatafao had five putaways, two blocks and two digs. Jamie Selleneit had 15 helpers while Diamond Williams collected 14 digs.

Match 2: Alabama State (East #2) vs. Prairie View A&M (West #3), 11:00 a.m. at Moody Intramural Center
Alabama State picked up a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-14) victory over Prairie View A&M on October 16 at the SWAC Round Up. ALST’s Amber Bennett tallied 10 kills and seven block assists as Myla Marshall chipped in seven kills, 11 total blocks and two aces. Kori Kutsch dished out 11 assists as Jamie Coleman collected 11 digs, four assists and two service aces. PVAM’s MoKeysha Shanklin had a team-high 10 kills and two assists while Randi Hunter chipped in five putaways. Ana Kiso sent out 21 helpers and six digs while Paige Chuidian collected 10 digs.

Match 3: Jackson State (East #1) vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (West #4), 1:00 p.m. at Clifford Seymour Gym
Jackson State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their October 16 meeting at the SWAC Round Up, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23). Jasmine Knight had a stand-out match for JKST with 19 kills and five digs as Taija Thomas posted 11 kills. Jenna Siddiqui dished out 17 assists, eight kills and five digs in the victory. UAPB was led by Kayla Dowdell’s seven kills, two digs and two blocks while Natalie Gibbs chipped in five kills and two digs. Katy Hufnagel sent out 17 helpers, two digs and two aces as Ayanna Parker collected 10 digs, three kills and two blocks.

Match 4: Texas Southern (West #1) vs. Alcorn State (East #4), 1:00 p.m. at Moody Intramural Center
Texas Southern swept Alcorn State 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-8) in the squad’s match up on October 16 at the SWAC Round Up. TXSO was led by Taylor Dickerson’s 10 kills, three blocks and two digs while Audriana Carson had nine kills, four digs and a solo block. Chelsea Thompson tallied 20 assists, seven digs and two kills as Allison Woods collected 16 digs, two helpers and one ace. ALCN’s Lurlethia Jones tallied six kills while Taylor Scriven had four kills and three digs. Leticia Gonzalez sent out nine assists, and three digs as Kyla Menefee collected 11 digs.
