Williams earns SWAC Player of the Week honors
Thomas earned offensive honors, while her teammate Siddiqui collected the award as a setter. Willams netted defensive accolades while MacDonald picked up newcomer hardware.
Offensive Player of the Week- Thomas
Taija Thomas was named to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette All-Tournament Team, after leading the Jackson State offense with 44 kills (3.38 kills-per-set) over four matches and 13 sets. Thomas recorded a total of 116 attacks with a .259 attack percentage.
Defensive Player of the Week- Williams
The league's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year added her second All-Tournament team honors to her ledger during the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley Tournament. Despite the Jaguars going 0-3 in the two day tournament, Williams led Southern University with 50 digs, including a game high 21 digs against San Jose State. The junior from Fort Worth, Texas, also had four service aces and five assists.
Setter of the Week- Siddiqui
Jenna Siddiqui led the Jackson State with 101 assists, averaging 7.77 assists-per-set over four matches and 13 sets. Siddiqui also recorded five serving aces and seven block assists over the weekend.
Newcomer of the Week- MacDonald
Freshman setter Riley MacDonald had 26 assists and 22 digs in three matches for Alabama State at the Troy Invitational on September 4-5. She averaged 2.36 assists-per-set and 2.00 digs-per-set in tournament action, including posting 14 assists and eight digs against Cal-State Bakersfield.
