BATON ROUGE, La. -- A ninth inning bomb lifts Southeastern Louisiana University over Southern University, 5-3 in a midweek tilt at Jaguar field.

Southern falls to (8-22), Southeastern improves to (29-18).

Southeastern jumped on board in the top of the fourth inning after an errant throw ended in the outfield to put a runner on third base. A Lindsey Rizzo single to second base pitted the first run of the game.

SELU added to their lead, scoring a run on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher to take a 2-0 lead.

Southern's Shauna Knighten walk and an Aubrion James single, scored Jaslyn Perrodin and Hope Kruebbe to tie the game, 2-2.

Perrodin continues to make strides this season as she went 2-of-4 and made a stretched out catch along the right-field line to end the top of the sixth inning, with runners in scoring position. The senior leads the team with a career-high .341 hitting average and 32 hits. She has recorded a hit in 8 of the last 10 games(11 hits).

Southeastern broke the game open in the top of the ninth inning with a three-run homerun to left field to take the lead, 5-2.

Southern's rally fell short, recording one run in the bottom of the ninth to close the game 5-3.

Aubrion James got the nod in the circle, pitching nine innings allowing five runs (three earned), on eight hits, striking out two.

Southern will be back in action Friday for a three-game series versus western division leader Texas Southern University, the Jaguars will be celebrating five seniors as the will play the final home series of their collegiate careers. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
