BATON ROUGE, La. -- Southern University could not overcome mental errors as the Jaguars fall short to rival Grambling State, 3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

Southern falls to (6-15, 4-3), Grambling State improves to (13-13, 1-6).

Grambling State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth, after a failed pickoff attempt went into center field to take the lead, 1-0. GSU added a run on an RBI single to right field to take a commanding lead, 2-0.

The Lady Tigers capped their scoring in the top of the seventh, when another failed pickoff gave Grambling State a 3-0 lead.

Southern scored the Jaguars lone run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk. The two-out rally fell short, with bases loaded the batter struck out to end the game.

James recorded her first loss in SWAC play. She allowed three runs, four hits, and struck out four. Aubrion James record falls to (5-5, 3-1). 

The Jaguars and the Lady Tigers will conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday, first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
