NEW ORLEANS, La. -- In a rain fill weekend Southern took one game out of five versus Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Urban Youth Park in New Orleans, Louisiana.

GAME 1 FDU 4, SU 0 | GAME 2 FDU 2, SU 6 | Game 3 FDU 9, SU 1 (6)

The Southern University Jaguars softball team dropped a pair contest to Farleigh Dickinson during a triple-header action. Southern dropped game one 4-1, took game two 6-2 then dropped the nightcap 9-1.

In the first game, the Knights jumped to a 2-0 advantage with back-to-back singles to center field.

FDU added a third run in the fourth after taking home on a pick-off attempt to extend their lead, 3-0.

The Knights scored their fourth and final run of the game in the seventh frame with an RBI single up the middle.

Southern's offensive struggle continued, held scorelessly, and mustered three hits.

In game two, Southern took advantage of a fielding error by the third baseman, the Jaguars went small ball recording three bunts, James recorded a RBIs on a fielder choice to take the lead, 1-0.

FDU answered back with two runs in the next half inning.

Southern broke the game open in the fifth inning, the rally started with Jaguars' Kameri Mott was hit by a pitch, back-to-back singles loaded the bases. Hope Kruebbe RBI single through the left side, kept the bases loaded and tied the game, 2-2. Rincon, and Perrodin each recorded RBI singles. A Mercado walk and Tanner fielder choice extended the lead, 6-2.

Tiara Scott got the nod in the circle, pitched 3.1 innings allowed two runs (unearned) on six hits and three strikeouts. Abrion James got the win in relief, pitched a solid 3.2 innings allowed three hits no runs. Kruebbe recorded a season-high two hits.

Game 3, it was all Fairleigh Dickerson. FDU exploded for nine runs and 10 hits, taking advantage of Southern's defensive woes adding five runs in the third and fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

Southern added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Kruebbe sacrifice bunt that scored James to cut the lead, 5-1.

The Jaguars was held scoreless the rest of the game.

GAME 4 FDU 5, SU 2 | GAME 5 FDU 4, SU 3

Fairleigh Dickinson swept Southern on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Jaguars 5-2 and 4-2.

The Knights bats where hot, as they put a four-spot in the top of the fourth inning to take an early 4-0 lead.

Southern responded with a two-run inning, to cut the lead to 4-2.

FDU added an insurance run and their final run in the top of the fifth inning.

Scott, T. recorded her fourth loss of the season, allowing five runs, and ten hits, walking and striking out one.

Mott batted 2-of-3 and scored once. Kruebbe and Rincon recorded a RBI.

Southern started the nightcap by recording runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.

The Knights responded with a run in the top of the fourth and tied the game in the sixth.

In extra innings, FDU did not waste any time in taking the lead. With a runner placed at second and two infield singles, the Knights struck a double over the left fielder head to take the decisive 4-2 lead.

Southern had an opportunity with runners on second and third with one out, a strikeout and an induced groundball ended the game.

Southern will return to action on Wednesday, February 27 when they go on the road to face Southern Miss (8-5) at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
