GRAMBLING, La. | A pitching duel ended with Southern University on top, taking the rubber match and their third series of the season 1-0 in extra innings versus Grambling State University, Sunday afternoon at the Lady Tigers Softball Field.

Aubrion James pitched her 11th complete game of the season and her third shutout. She allowed four hits and struck out three Lady Tigers.

The Chattanooga connection came up big in extra innings. After, struggling all weekend Kiara Suttles came through in the clutch, sending a changeup to deep right-center field for a standup double. An errant pitch later put her 60 feet from scoring the go-ahead run. With one out on the board, her longtime teammate brought her home with an RBI double to right center field to take the go-ahead lead, 1-0.

James sat the next three batters down to earn her tenth victory of the season.

This Grambling State series concludes the regular season for the Jaguars. Southern will go into the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament as the fourth seed. The SWAC tournament will be played at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex (Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala.) May 9-12.
