BATON ROUGE, La. | Southern University Jaguars ended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff six game winning streak, SU swept the Lady Golden Lions 8-7 and 7-4 in Saturday doubleheader at Oak Villa BREAC Park.

In game one, UAPB pounced first taking advantage of an errant throw on a stolen base attempt to score the first run in the top of the first. Southern returned the favor scoring on a dropped fly ball to right field. To tie the score.

Jazmine Dukes recorded her first home run of the season to center field to lead off the bottom of the second inning to extend the lead, 2-1.

UAPB jumped back in front scoring four runs, after two SU errors and two pass balls to extend the lead, 5-2 in the top of the third inning.

The Jaguars' scored two runs on a Golden Lions error. Sydney Andrews RBI double scored Scarlett Brock to tie the game, 5-5.

In the top of the fourth inning, UAPB loaded the bases before Aubry James escaped out the inning, popping up and striking out the final batter with a wicked changeup that froze the batter in place.

UAPB added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead, 7-5.

Southern's Shauna Knighten got the rally started in the bottom of the seventh beating out a single to the shortstop. Andrews singled down the left field line to put the tying run at first. Kierra Suttles flew out to centerfield to end her nine-game hitting streak. Liz Donaldson smoked one to centerfield to score Jazlyn Perrodin who pinched ran for Knighten and put the tying run in scoring position. Jamani Greer knocked a double RBI blooper over the outstretched hand of the first baseman to rob UAPB of the victory, snapping the Golden Lions six-game winning streak.

Aubry James recorded her sixth win of the season allowing two earned on nine hits, striking out four Lady Golden Lions pitching her sixth complete game.

Knighten recorded three hits, James, Dukes, and Andrews recorded two hits.

Southern recorded twos double a home run and no strikeouts.

Karia Hall recorded the loss in relief allowing three runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work.

In game two, it was all Southern. Andrews started the game with a leadoff single to the shortstop beating the throw and stealing two consecutive bases to get into scoring position with no outs. Liz Donaldson hit a RBI line drive off the shoulder of the third baseman to bring Andrews home to take a 1-0 lead.

UAPB tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third.

Donaldson knocked her second homerun of the season over the centerfield wall to begin the two-out rally. Walton recorded a RBI double to right center to score Greer. James double down the left field line to score Walton, Brock joined the hitting recording a RBI single through the right side to score James. In the bottom of the third inning Southern scored four runs and five hits to extend the lead, 5-1.

Southern's Greer double to right center added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Donaldson extending the lead, 7-1.

Donaldson got the nod in the circle for the Jaguars pitching five full innings, giving up three runs on five hits, walking five batters, and striking out two.

In the top of the sixth inning, Donaldson walked two and threw two wild pitches before being replaced by James. UAPB took advantage scoring three runs to cut the lead, 7-4.

James allowed one earned run on three hits and striking out two to record her second save of the season to lead the SWAC. James ranks third in the conference with 38 strikeouts, pitching 57 total innings (4th in the SWAC), James six wins ranks third in the SWAC.

Greer and Donaldson went 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Donaldson recorded a home run and two RBIs, Greer recorded a double and a RBI.

Southern improved to (5-4, 10-12), UAPB falls to (6-3, 14-22).

The Jaguars will be back in action Tuesday versus Nichols State University in Zachary, Louisiana at the Zachary Youth Park.
