BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The Southern University men’s track and field team ended the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday evening. After two days of competition, the men finished seventh at the SWAC Championships with a total of 33 points. 
Freshman Charvares Wilson claimed his first piece of a hard medal by taking third place in the shot put with a throw of 14:64 meters. Wilson also earned the first six points on day one of the SWAC championships for the men’s team. 
Junior Jeremy Bass finished third in the weight throw with a throw of 16.21. Bass also competed in the shot put and placed fourth. Bass contributed eleven points to the men’s total score between both events. 
Freshman Nicholas Scott prevailed through to the 800-meter finals on Friday. Scott finished in sixth with a time of 1:57.19. Scott earned 3 points for the men’s team.
Junior Keshaun Javois made it through from Thursday’s mile prelim to Friday’s final and placed seventh with a time of 4:32.00. Javois also competed in the 5000-meter run and finished tenth with a tremendous personal best time of 16:46.68. 
The men’s distance medley finished seventh with a time of 11:03.38. 
The 4x400 meter team; Isaac Brown, Derek Garner, Nicholas Scott, and Artis McCoy placed seventh with a time of 3:18.19.   
“It didn’t go as planned for some but at the end of the day we just have to keep working,” head coach Teremaine White said. 
The men’s team indoor season has come to an end and are looking forward to the outdoor season. The outdoor season will start March 2, 2019, in Hammond, La at Southeastern Louisiana University.
