ITTA BENA, Miss. | Southern Soccer wrapped up the weekend with a scoreless tie against Mississippi Valley State University, Sunday afternoon.
During the 110 minutes of play, neither Mississippi Valley nor Southern were able to score but combined for 35 shots.
The Jaguars outshot the Lady Delta Devils 21-14, 9-7 shots on goal.
Lauryn McKinney and Jesenia Rivera paced Southern with five and four shots on goal respectively.
Mississippi Valley State’s Laadi Issaka had a chance to steal the game on a penalty kick with 3:21 remaining in the first overtime period was saved by Southern goalkeeper Chioma Eriken, diving to her left.
Chioma Eriken recorded seven saves and her third shutout of the season. Eriken is leading the nation in saves recording 139 in her first season with the Jaguars.
McKinney concludes this weekend by scoring the game-winner versus Alcorn State and adding a goal to a team-high four goals this season.
Southern will be back in action Sunday, October 21, versus Howard University at Jaguar Park scheduled for a 1 p.m. tilt.
