Soccer prepares to visit nation's capital
Southern University Lady Jaguars will make their first trip to Washington D.C. under head coach Jeremy Fontenot.
The Lady Jags last visited the nation capitol in 2015 for the first time in program history, dropping the contest 2-0.
Southern (0-4-1, 0-9-1) is looking to pull the upset over Howard University Lady Bison (3-2, 4-8), the Lady Jaguars are 1-2 in the series; pulling a 1-0 upset in 2014, Howard's first year in the league.
Southern currently sits in tenth place Southwestern Athletic Conference four points behind 8th place University Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The top eight teams, based on conference results determined by a point system, qualify for the SWAC Women's Soccer Tournament. A team receives three points for each conference win and one point for a tie. The winner of the tournament will earn the SWAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament, if eligible.
SU has been snake bitten for majority of this season, losing two key seniors for the season before the start of conference play. The Lady Jags have only used the same line-up twice the season versus UAPB and Grambling State, arguably their strongest performance this season.
Southern goes into this tilt with a week worth of rest as their Monday tilt versus Alcorn State was postponed due to Hurricane Nate.
The Lady Jaguars will fly out early Thursday morning, for the Friday night match. First touch is schedule for 7 p.m.
