Soccer drops to 0-2 after falling to UTRGV 3-0
EDINBURG, TEXAS -- University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley held a 20-6 shot advantage over Southern in route to a 3-0 win Sunday afternoon in the UTRGV Tournament finale at the UTRGV Soccer Complex.
SU goalkeeper Kendra Lewis (0-2) recorded six saves in just her second complete game of her career.
Despite yielding a goal to UTRGV forward Andreya Barrera on a corner kick 3:57 into the match, Lewis held the Vaqueros scoreless over the next 53:41. The Vaqueros added a Kelzy Jepen goal in the 57th minute and an America Martinez goal in the 81st minute to produce the final margin.
Southern wrapped up its four day stay in Edinburg 0-2 after falling to South Carolina State 5-1 on Friday in the opening game of the UTRGV Tournament.
The Lady Jaguars will travel to Thibodaux to face Southland Conference member Nicholls State Friday at 1 p.m.
