NEW ORLEANS, LA – Senior transfer Amel Kuljuhovic had career and season-high of 15 points but wasn't enough as Tulane defeated Southern 82-65 at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.
Lamarcus Lee was the only other Jaguar in double figures with 11 points, Southern (3-5) was lead by Lee with a team high six rebounds. Brendon Brooks had nine points along with Kuljuhovic and Darius Williams who each had five rebounds for the Jaguars.
“We missed some bunnies and some point-blank layups,” second-year coach Sean Woods said. “You can’t beat a team no matter what level they are in their place if you’re not making your shots. I don’t think their zone gave us problems. We got the shots. We just didn’t finish them.” Southern shot 37 percent for the game (23-for-63) and 23 percent from three-point range (6-26). The Jaguars shot 65 percent form free throw line (13-20) and outscored the Green Wave bench 25-19. Southern out rebounded Tulane overall 39-34 and 16-8 on the offensive boards.
Next up, Southern will travel to the midwest for three game road swing. First the Jaguars travel to Akron on Sunday Dec. 8 at 2:00pm followed by a visit to Wright State on Dec. 12 at 7:00pm, they game will be televised on ESPN3. The Jaguars will finish up the three game road trip on Saturday Dec. 14 when they visit historic Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on Butler at 12:00pm, they game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
