OMAHA, NE -- The Southern men's basketball team opened up the Cayman Island Classic Mainland Tournament on Monday night at Baxter Arena falling to University of Nebraska Omaha 78-51.
Redshirt Junior Lamarcus Lee had a season-high 8 points, including 3-of-7 shooting from field goal range and seven rebounds to lead the Jaguars. Senior Darius Williams had his second back-to-back games with over 10 rebounds, he had 12 rebounds on the night and seven points. Graduate transfer Micah Bradford lead the Jaguars with five assist, six points and two rebounds.
Southern (2-4) went into halftime trailing 37-23. They cut it as close to 10 points at the 18:37 mark with Darius Williams layup in the 2nd half but that was as close as they would get to the Mavericks (4-3). The Jaguars kept fighting but shooting struggles continued. SU shot 19-of-60 from field goal range shooting 32%, 25% from 3-point range on 6-of-24 shooting. The Jaguars won the battle on the boards out-rebounding UNO 16-13 on the offensive end.
Next up, Southern will face IUPUI Tuesday Nov. 26 at 4:30 pm in the Mainland Tournament (Caymen Island Classic) at UNO Baxter Arena.
