BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern Jaguars men's basketball team got off to a fast start and used stifling defense to force 19 turnovers in a 78-57 exhibition win over Wiley College on Friday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. Sophomore Jayden Saddler led the Jaguars with 12 points, three assist and three steals. R-Junior Brendon Brooks added 10 points to pace SU.
The Jaguars opened the game on a 9-2 run and lead most of the first half by double digits. The Wildcats went on 9-2 run to close out the half. SU was leading 37-28 at halftime. The second half was all Southern as they continued to build on their halftime lead. SU led by as much as 29, in route to the 78-57 win. Isaiah Rollins and Amel Kuljuhovic each added eight points to help pace a balanced offensive attack that included 15 different players scoring. Southern connected on 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field, including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from 3-point range.
Southern held Wiley to 16-for-43 shooting (37.2 percent) and out-rebounded the Wildcats, 29-24. The Jaguars collected 12 steals on the defensive end.
