SWAC Football Players of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State’s Felix Harper and Corey McCullough, along with Southern’s Calvin Lunkins, Prairie View A&M’s Dewonya Tucker, and Texas Southern’s Donnie Corley were all named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Football Players of the Week in week five of the season for their outstanding play the league announced on Monday.
Alcorn State
Felix Harper (5-11, 180, QB, R-Jr., Fairburn, Ga.)
Harper threw for a career-high 396 yards including six touchdown passes and no interceptions. He was 21-for-30 throwing in the 45-19 victory for Alcorn over Mississippi Valley State. Harper connected with LeCharles Pringle for three touchdowns, and Chris Blair twice for a 69-yard and 52-yard touchdown pass, respectively. Harper, who started for the second consecutive week in-place of Noah Johnson, topped his previous career-high of 280 passing yards set last weekend against Prairie View A&M.
Prairie View A&M
Dewonya Tucker (5-5, 180, RB, Sr., Terrell, Texas)
Tucker had a historical night as he captured the single game record in rushing yard for Prairie View bypassing his teammate with 263 yards as Jalen Morton recently held the record with 255 yards. The senior Terrell, Texas native also had two touchdowns to go with his historical night averaging 10.1 yards per carry.  

Calvin Lunkins (6-1, 230, LB, R-Sr., New Orleans, La.)
Lunkins had 11 tackles and one sack for an 11-yards loss along with one pass breakup. Lunkins was a vital part of a dominating defense that held UAPB to 61 totals yards rushing while giving the Jaguars their first victory in conference play this season.  
Alcorn State
Corey McCullough (5-11, 175, P/K, Sr., Louisville, Miss.)
McCullough tallied nine points for Alcorn in its 45-19 victory over Mississippi Valley State. He connected on a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter, and was a perfect six-for-six in extra points. All three of his punts landed inside the 20, and one was downed at the 1-yard line.
Texas Southern
Donnie Corley (6-2, 190, WR, Jr., Detroit, Mich.)
Corley had an impressive game for the Texas Southern Tigers offensively as he hauled in 12 receptions for 198 yards with a long reception of 84 yards to go along with one touchdown.
