BIRMINGHAM, AL - Southern University soccer fell to Howard University 4-0 Sunday afternoon in their Southwestern Athletic Conference opener at Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.
Southern falls to (1-6, 0-1), Howard improves to (4-2, 1-0)
The Jaguars were able to keep the first half scoreless against the Bison. Recording five shots and one corner kick in the half.
Howard outshot Southern, 15-7, and posted 10-5 shots on goal advantage. Goalkeeper, Alayna Grey, had 6 saves out of 10 shots on goal. Grey recorded an entire 90-minutes in Sunday afternoon's game. The Bison held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Early in the second half, the Bison came out to score first. Bayley Carmichael scored giving her team a 1-0 lead at the 47-minute mark. Within three minutes, Thalia Boucher scored giving the Bison a 2-0 lead over the Jaguars at the 50-minute mark.
Late in the second half, Aleeya Sawyer continued her teams lead by scoring at the 79-minute mark making it 3-0, Bison. At the 84-minute mark, the Jaguars received a foul resulting in a penalty kick for the Bison. Thalia Boucher scored giving her team the last point of the game.
The Jaguars will be back on the road traveling to Huntsville, AL to face Alabama A&M Friday, October 4 at 3:30 p.m. Then the Jaguars will travel to Montgomery, AL Sunday, October 6 to face Alabama State at 1:00 p.m.
