St. Francisville - Southern University Men's and Women's Cross Country opened up their season hosting their first Jaguar Cross Country Invitational at West Feliciana Park in St. Francisville, La. 

The women stamped their mark by taking first place and placing three athletes in the top five in the 5k run early Saturday morning. 

Freshman Chantaya Griffin finished third with a time of 20:31.12. Sophomore, Sydney Minor shortly followed behind her with a time of 20:48.71 placing Minor in fourth place. 

Not too long after her teammates, Freshman Nina Burgos took fifth place with a time of 20:56.89. 

The men finished 2nd out of 5 teams in Saturday's meet. They fought their way through a course filled with hills but still managed to record good times. 

Freshman Tallan James came in at sixth place with a time of 20:22.89. Senior Keshawn Javois was right on his heels coming in at 20:31.09 finishing in seventh place. 

The Jaguars will have a weekend off. The women's and men's teams are set to hit the course again Saturday, September 21 at the 2nd Annual Nicholls Cross Country Invitational.
