Jaguars Continue to Set Personal Records

LAKE CHARLES - Ten Southern University Track and Field athletes recorded personal-best marks at the McNeese Spring Classic at the McNeese Track and Field Complex on Saturday, April 6.
The athletes include, Artis McCoy in the 200-meter dash, Ashley Miles in the 200-meter dash, Nia Williams in the long jump, Teuanna Perry in the Triple Jump, Da’on Acosta in the Long Jump, Johnny Duncan in the hammer throw, London Lewis in the hammer throw and Discus, Terrell Chevalier in the 400-meter hurdles, Jarden James in the 110-meter hurdles, and Nicholas Scott in the 800-meter run
“Every week our athletes are getting better and better and that makes us coaches very excited for what is to come,” said head coach Teremine White.
Freshman Jada Bryan recorded her first career win in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:58.59. Although the mark fell shy of Bryan’s personal best she still holds the fifth place on the Southwestern Athletic Conference performance list.
Junior Nia Williams took a shift in events Saturday. Williams competed in the Long Jump for the first time in her career and took seventh in the McNeese Spring Classic with a jump of 5.42 meters (17’78”). Williams is also seventh on the SWAC performance list.
Freshman Nicholas Scott finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.36. Scott's first-place finish is the second win of his career and has propelled him to ninth of the SWAC performance list.
Junior Johnny Duncan recorded a personal best in the hammer throw with a throw of 39.35 meters (129’1”). This throw has put Duncan in ninth place on the SWAC performance list.
The Jaguars prepare for the last two meets left in the 2019 SWAC Outdoor Championships. The team will head to The University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the Cole-Lancon Meet at the Ragin Cajun Soccer/Track Complex on April 13.
