LAFAYETTE - The Southern University Track and Field team claimed fifteen top-five finishes.  concluded a two day meet on Saturday evening at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. 
 
The Jaguars concluded a two day meet Saturday, March 16 with Senior Terralicia Mercadel finishing second in the 400-meter and 200-meter dash, with a time of 24:55 and 54:90. Senior Faith Estelle took second in the Hammer throw with a throw of 52.60 meters, Junior Tessa Tony pushed her way through to place second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.16, Sophmore Raelynn Price secured a number one spot on the SWAC performance list in the 800-meter run Saturday with a time of  2:16.71.
Sydney Minor also claimed a top-five spot on the SWAC performance list in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.95, Freshman Jazmine Young completed the Javelin with a throw of 39.07 meters,  Freshman Aniya Styles finished fifth in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.34, Isaac Brown finished fifth in the 800-meter run a time of 1:57.00, Artis McCoy placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.72. 
 
Climbing their way to the top of the SWAC performance list, junior Derrick Garner, Freshman Kirkland Hill, Junior Artis McCoy, and Junior Isaac Brown made their first appearance in the 4x400-meter relay in the outdoor season with a time of  3:14.83. 
For the first time, this season the women ran the 4x400-meter relay and took second with a time of 3:48.94.  This sets the women second overall in the SWAC. Also, the women's 4x100 relay finished third with a time of 47.18. This time put the Jaguars in second place on the SWAC performance list. 
"We were able to run the traditional relays this weekend, and the kids did really well," said head coach Teremine White. 
Next weekend the track and field team will be close to home once again as they travel to compete in a dual meet with Southeastern Louisiana in  Hammond on Saturday, March 23.
