HOUSTON — The Southern University men's and women's track team opened the indoor season last Friday at the University of Houston's Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitation, with three athletes notching personal bests in their respective events. “I'm pretty excited about what the kids did today,” head coach Termemine White said. “The upperclassmen competed as well as they left off with last year, and that's all you can ask for.” Junior Nia Williams won the 60-meter hurdles — her first win in that event — with a personal best of 8.87. Meanwhile, fellow junior Ashley Miles recorded a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.83. “I did something different today,” Miles said. “I asked my coach for her opinion on how I should run, and I came out and PR'd.” Junior Artis McCoy also ran a personal best of 6.90 in the men's 60-meter dash. “I peaked late in the season, so it should be a nice season for me,” McCoy said. The track team returns to action this weekend as it travels to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Samford Invitational.
