As the signing period began, the Southern Baseball program is excited to announce five signees to start off their 2019 recruiting class with the additions of Bubba Thompson, Jahli Hendricks, Caleb Maloof, Brandon Green, and Austin Richard.

Coach Jackson on our early signees as a whole: “The consistent theme in all of our signees is their character.  As much as we believe in their ability on the field; It is who they are as people and their desire to be a part of our culture that makes them special.  We believe we have addressed a number of needs in this recruiting class by getting deeper, more physical, and more athletic.”

Bubba Thompson - Shortstop

Hortonville, Wisconsin - Appleton West High School (WI)

Coach Jackson on Thompson: “Bubba is a big, physical multi-sport athlete that we believe has a chance to be a special player.  Bubba has a quiet confidence about him that reinforces the culture we are building here.  He will have a chance to compete for playing time right away in the infield.”

 Jahli Hendricks - Infield

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (PA)

Coach Jackson on Hendricks: “Explosive, high energy, winner - these are my first thoughts about Jahli.  He is a product of the Philadelphia RBI program.  He played in the Little League World Series.  He has a chance to play multiple positions in the field and his speed allows him to be a dynamic threat offensively.”

Caleb Maloof - Right-Handed Pitcher

Atlanta, Georgia - Grady High School (GA)

Coach Jackson on Maloof: “Caleb is every bit of 6’5”, 240 pounds and has a chance to develop in something really special.  He’s been up to 89 and shown the ability the throw strikes at a high level.  He will have a chance to contribute right away and become a front line arm for us. ”

Brandon Green - Catcher

Chicago, Illinois - Kenwood Academy (IL)

Coach Jackson on Green: “Brandon is an above average athlete behind the plate.  His quick hands and actions allow him to be a quality receiver as well as control the running game.  Offensively, his athleticism is going to allow him to be a dynamic asset.  Brandon has chance to come in and make an impact day one”

Austin Richard - Outfielder/First Basemen

Baton Rouge, Louisiana - The Dunham School (LA)

Coach Jackson on Richard: “Austin represents a versatile left-handed threat that amplifies our offensive ability.  His power and speed potential paint a picture of a bright future. He’s a local product that wanted to be a part of our culture and comes from a winning tradition.  He has been to the State Tournament multiple times with the Dunham School. Austin is also a legacy as both his father and grandfather attended Southern University.”
