BATON ROUGE -- The Baylor Bears sank three consecutive three-pointers in route to a 16-0 scoring run in a second-quarter surge to down Southern University Jaguars 53-80 at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
Baylor (1-1) faced Southern after falling to Texas Southern to open the season, their first loss to a SWAC opponent after holding a 59-0 record.
After a back-and-forth first half, Southern's offense sputtered into a six-minute scoring drought in the second half, the16-0 run against Southern University turned a one-point deficit into a 50-35 lead with 12 minutes to go. That was all Baylor need to do to put the Jaguars away.
Eddie Reese led the Jaguars (0-2) with 18 points and Jayden Saddler added 11.
The start of the game was delayed by almost an hour because of a shattered backboard that occurred about three hours before the scheduled tipoff.
Southern travels to Louisville, Kentucky to face the University of Louisville Cardinals, Tuesday, November 13. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tilt and will be featured on ACC Network Extra (available to authenticated subscribers of ESPN on the Watch ESPN app) Kent Taylor, will be the play-by-play announcer while Jody Demling, will be the color analyst.
It is the first meeting between the two schools. Louisville has a 7-0 record against current members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, having previously faced four of its members (Jackson State 3-0, Prairie View A&M 2-0, Alcorn State 1-0, Texas Southern 1-0). In its last matchup against a SWAC team, Louisville beat Texas Southern 102-71 on Dec. 10, 2016.
