Lady Jaguars opens SWAC Play at Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TX -- Southern University Jaguars and Texas Southern University Tigers will open Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday night at the HP&E Arena in Houston, Texas.

The game will tip off at 5 PM.

As Coach Sandy Pugh enters her 18th season of leading the Lady Jaguars, they prepare to begin the battle of dethroning the reigning SWAC Champions, the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern. On the other end, the ladies of TSU look to extend their home game winning streak when they take the floor against the Lady Jags.

TSU swept SU last season in two very close games.

SU is led by preseason first-team All-SWAC selection Briana Green. The Senior, a Fort Lauderdale native, leads the Jags in all areas of the game with 127 points (14.1 per game), 55 boards (6.1 per game), 20 assists (2.2 per game) and 20 steals (2.2 per game). Green has averaged 20.6 points per game in her last three outtings.

Junior guard Joyce Kennerson leads TSU with a 25.1 pts per game, 4.7 assists per game and 28 steals. Senior guard Camille Mills leads the Lady Tigers in rebounds with 61 boards this season.

After the Texas Southern tilt, Southern heads across town to face the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
