Women's Tennis stumble at New Orleans 4-0

NEW ORLEANS -- Southern University women’s tennis dropped its third match of the season, falling to New Orleans 4-0 at the University Tennis Courts Saturday.

The Lady Jaguars will host their 2017 home opener against Southeastern Louisiana Thursday, Feb. 16 at the SU University Courts.

In doubles action, Raymond D’Jeri and Nicki Neal fell to Yasmine Rashad and Paula Garriga 6-4 before the Privateers clinced the double point with Anja Luethi and Yurina Asai’s 6-1 win over Stephanie Mbaya and Tanaka Chakanyuka.

Southern’s Stephanie Mbaya lost in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) to Anja Luethi in No. 1 singles action. At No. 2 singles play, senior Darnesha Moore fell 6-4, 6-2 to Claudette Gilhespie before UNO’s Yasmine Rashad defeated Tanaka Chakanyuka 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to end the match.

Rufaro Chirewa (No. 3), Nicki Neal (No. 5), and D’Jeri Raymond (No. 6) each had their match suspended once the Privateers secured the decisive point.
