Baseball loses DelaTorre, ilarraza due to eligibility
Southern opens the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday facing top seeded Alabama State, which is undefeated in league play at 24-0. First pitch at Wesley Barrow Stadium, host venue for the league's postseason tournament, is set for 6 p.m.
DelaTorre, a senior from Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, started in 34 of the Jaguars’ 42 games this season, batting .339 with six doubles, five home runs, 28 RBIs, 32 runs and 10 stolen bases. As a four-year letterman, Dela Torre ends his SU baseball playing career as a .300 hitter with 27 home runs and 25 doubles in 141 games played.
ilarraza, a junior from Puerto Real, Puerto Rico, pitched 17 innings in 12 appearances and recorded a 9.00 ERA with nine strikeouts. Ilarraza has made 34 appearances during his three-year career.
