Soccer set to host March to the Match Friday
The Southern University soccer team will kickoff homecoming weekend with its first annual March to the Match this Friday, October 25that 2:30 p.m.
The Jaguar Nation is encouraged to meet up in front of the Union at 2:30 p.m., dressed in blue and gold and ready to cheer the Lady Jaguars on to victory before their Southwestern Athletic Conference match against Mississippi Valley State University.
The march is slated to begin promptly at 2:45 p.m.
“This will be a great way to start off the weekend of homecoming,” said Head Soccer Coach Courtnie Prather.
March to the Match is a tradition in soccer that is sometimes referred to as a “Moving Pep Rally”. The Lady Jaguars and supporters will march through campus to A.W. Mumford Stadium, while the Southern University Pep Band provides music for the march as well as a second line.
“With our good standing in conference, and this being homecoming week, this will be a great way for fans to fellowship and show their Jaguar pride before the festivities this Saturday,” said Prather.
For the past couple of years, Southern soccer failed to win more than two matches in conference. This year, the Lady Jaguars, in Prather’s first year as head coach, currently rank in first place in the SWAC Western Division at 2-0.
Along with “March to the Match,” Southern will provide $.50 hot dogs and conduct “Shootout for a Smoothie” competition sponsored by Smoothie King.
