Southern University believes in and is committed to Diversity, Inclusion and Gender Equity. The primary goal of Gender Equity is to ensure "measurable, equal representation of both women and men, in opportunities and quality of experience." Southern University's Department of Athletics Gender Equity statute prohibits "discrimination on the basis of gender against any student." Title IX forbids discrimination in student assistance and services in academic programs, and in intercollegiate athletics.
The Southern University Department of Athletics Committee on Gender Equity will seek to establish and maintain an inclusive culture; provide or enable programming and education which sustains foundations of an inclusive culture; increase opportunity for student-athletes, coaches and administrative staff from underrepresented groups to participate in intercollegiate athletics at the Division I level; and, enhance hiring practices to facilitate more inclusive leadership to intercollegiate athletics.
The Southern University Department of Athletics, Diversity, Inclusion and Gender Equity will seek to develop and insure that the NCAA Commitment is brought to bear.
