Cory McCain begins his first year as the Assistant Director of Academic Services at Southern University during the 2018-19 academic year. He will have oversight of the women and men track and field programs, and the men’s baseball program.
McCain most recently completed a year long internship at Texas A&M University. He served as a facilities assistant. While there he assisted in the oversight of multiple athletic facilities including Ellis Field (Soccer) and Blue Bell Park (Baseball). Additionally, he assisted in the planning of facility upgrades including the new E.B. Cushing outdoor track and field stadium.
Prior to his time at Texas A&M University, McCain completed a two-year NCAA grant funded minority internship at Eureka College in Eureka, IL. As the Assistant to the Athletics Director and Coordinator of Student-Athlete Academic Support he began an academic support program for all 250+ student athletes. He also sat on multiple campus committees including Retention and Persistence, Staff Steering, and the Higher Learning Commission during the reaccreditation process for the institution. During his time at Eureka student athletes GPA’s and overall retention numbers increased.
The Detroit, MI native completed his undergraduate work at Kalamazoo College. He was a 4-year letter winner on the football team, and graduated with a B.A. in Business in 2011. Following graduation McCain became a school teacher and coach in Kanas City, MO while continuing his education. He received his M.A. Edu. from UMSL in 2013. Following his time in Kansas City, McCain returned to Michigan to complete a Masters in Sport Management degree from Western Michigan.
