Jonathon Wilson serves as the Associate Director of Academics and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Southern University’s athletics academics program. Wilson currently advises both Football and Men’s Basketball. Wilson has formerly advised Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field, Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, and Women’s Bowling.
Throughout his professional career, Wilson has also gained relative experience in athletics compliance at the University of Houston. While at Houston, some of Wilson’s responsibilities included: providing rules education for coaches, student-athletes, and academic tutors; identifying, investigating, and reporting NCAA violations; investigating promotional activity opportunities throughout the Houston community for student-athletes and coaches; evaluated high school transcripts of potential student-athletes to determine initial eligibility.
Prior to his time at the University of Houston, Wilson worked as a Compliance Intern for Sam Houston State University’s Athletics program. Wilson served as an organizer for sports camps, clinics, and recruiting; managed compliance rosters for all sports; and evaluated high school transcripts of potential student-athletes to determine initial eligibility.
As a former student-athlete, Wilson was a 4-year letterman in football for Southern University from 2010-2014. Wilson contributed to Southern University’s football program as a defensive back resulting in one SWAC championship win in 2013 and a SWAC championship appearance in 2014. Wilson was also a member of the Collegiate 100 Black Men. Wilson holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management from Sam Houston State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern University.
Wilson is a native of Baton Rouge.
