Herman Shelton enters his second season as the Assistant Director of Sports Information at Southern University.
Shelton is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the sports information office, and is the sport contact for Football, Soccer, Men's Basketball, Women's Track & Field, and Softball, second contact for women's basketball and men's track & feild.
Prior to Southern, Shelton was the Sports Information Director at Alcorn State Univerisity. At Alcorn, Shelton oversaw 15 sports in a one-man shop,and the overall upgrade of the Sports Information Office beginning with the website which saw traffic flow double. Shelton was able to stream all football, volleyball, baseball, and basketball contests for the first time in program history. With the support of the on-campus radio station all of the home softball games were broadcasted for the first time in program history.
One of the biggest highlights came that fall, when Shelton lead the media coverage of the Alcorn State football team that won the Southwestern Athletic Football Championship and participated in the inaugural Air Force Reserve Celebration bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
Shelton got his start in media as a photojournalist at Texas Southern University student newspaper. He later became the editor-in-cheif for two years before transitioning to Athletics under the tutalage of Rodney Bush. While in athletics he was the main photographer and graphic designer, Shelton also assisted with the redesign of tsuball.com. IN 2012 with the opening of BBVA Stadium, Shelton was charged with the management of the press box, media work room, and post game press conference.
Shelton graduated in the Spring of 2010 with a B.S. in Administration of Justice with a minor in Radio, Television, Film from Texas Southern University. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., College Sports Information Director Association (CoSida), Professional Photograhers of America (PPA).
He is the proud father of Keon and Kentrell.
