Charles Cheek enters his second season as the Jaguars Inside Linebackers Coach. Cheek is a part of the Jaguars new-look defensive staff under defensive coordinator Trei Oliver.

Before arriving on The Bluffs, the Atlanta, Ga., native spent one year teaching Business Education at Benjamin O. Davis Ninth Grade School in Houston, Texas. While teaching, Cheek also served as the Ninth Grade Girls Basketball Coach. The Lady Falcons finished the season with a 15-4 record that earned them a second place finish in the district.

Prior to Benjamin O. Davis, Cheek began his coaching career during a four-year stint (2011-2014) at North Carolina A&T State University. Under the direction of Head Coach Rod Broadway, Cheek was responsible for coaching the inside linebackers. The Aggie “Blue Death” Defense was stout in all four seasons. In 2012, the Aggie defense finished the season ranked #1 Rush Defense in the country and #1 Overall Defense in the MEAC, giving up an impressive 66.8 yards rushing per game. During the 2012 season, sophomore D’Vonte Grant was selected as a 2nd Team All-Conference Linebacker and also leading the conference in solo tackles. In 2013, the Aggie Defense continued its stingy play ranking Top 5 in Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game, Average Points Scored Against, Pass Defense, and Pass Efficiency. D’Vonte Grant finished his junior campaign 1st Team All-Conference. Brian Houston also received post-season honors with a 2nd Team All-Conference Selection. In Cheek’s final season at A&T, he helped lead the Aggies to the first MEAC championship since the 2003 season as MEAC Co-Champions. The Aggie Defense lead the way and their 24 interceptions lead the NCAA. D’Vonte Grant finished his career with another 1st Team All-Conference selection. Grant is considered one of the most decorated linebackers in school history.

Cheek began his collegiate career at Grambling State University as a fullback in the highly talented backfield for the Tigers from 2007-2010. He was a member of the 2008 SWAC and Black College National Championship team. Cheek finished his career with a 36-12 record, also an undefeated record at home (Robinson Stadium). Cheek was selected as a Team Captain his senior season.

Cheek earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Grambling State University in 2011 and a master’s degree in sports administration from North Carolina A&T State University in 2015.

Cheek is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated
