Coach Cipriano is entering his 8th year with the Jaguar program. The former Jaguar standout has been a member on the Southern University Coaching Staff since the 2013-2013 season, serving as a student assistant coach for that one year and spending the last seven seasons as an assistant coach.
Cipriano saw the Jaguars post a 22-13 overall record with a 2016 SWAC Tournament Titile and a NCAA Tournament berth. He was instrumental in the growth of forward Jared Sam, who averaged 9.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
In his first season as a Jaguar assistant coach, he helped the Jaguars to the 2014 Regular Season Championship. Cipriano worked primarily with the post players. He helped coach Calvin Godfrey to 2014 first team All SWAC honors. Godfrey averaged 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per gameon his was to earning SWAC Newcomer of the Year.
As a student assistant in 2012-2013, Cipriano helped the Jaguars to a 2013 SWAC Tournament Title and a NCAA Tournament berth.
Prior to returnung to Southern, Cipriano played professionally overseas from 2006-2011. He spent five seasons playing in Germany, Finland, Sweden and Poland. Cipriano averaged 7.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a professional.
Cipriano was also a member of the Cape Verde national basketball team that won a bronze medal at the FIBA Africa Championship in 2007, qualifying for a wildcard for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Cipriano is a native of Jersey City, New Jersey, who was also a member of the Jaguar Men's Basketball Program for five seasons (2001-2006), where he was recruited by current Head Coach Roman Banks. Cipriano led the Jaguars to a 2006 SWAC Tournament Title and a NCAA Tournament berth. Cipriano was a first team All-SWAC player in 2005 and a second team All-SWAC player in 2003 as a redshirt freshman. In 118 career games he averaged 9.4 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Coming out of high school, Cipriano played for legendary coach Bob Hurly at the national powerhouse St. Anthony High School in New Jersey. As a senior, Cipriano was able to lead St. Anthony to a NJSIAA Championship.
Cipriano earned his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2013. He resides in Prairieville, LA.
