Elliott Jones is entering his 4th year in assisting with Southern University Men’s Baseball program.
Graduating from Southern University with his B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies as well as graduating with honors and now obtaining his M.S. in Social Science here at Southern University.
Born and raised in Shreveport, LA Jones is the 2nd of three siblings. Parents are Antonia Anguiano and Mack Jones. While growing up in Shreveport, LA Jones played baseball and football. He is the all-time leader in passing yards and is 2nd in all-time batting average at behind the great Albert Bell. Jones was a 3 year letterman for Roger Cador’s jaguars and was very influential in the program which led to his return here on the Bluff. Jones comes from Green Oaks high school where he was the quarterbacks coach and teaching SPED at Pine Grove elementary both in Shreveport, LA.
Since Jones’s arrival at Southern University he has hit the ground running going from GA in the Compliance Office, and currently Assistant Baseball coach and has made an impact on many students’ lives in his short tenure. Jones says he loves what he does and can do at Southern University and is forever grateful and humble for the opportunity Coach Roger Cador have given him to be a part of this great staff.
While being at Southern in his palying career he had a career batting average of .308 with the Jaguar baseball team. Being selected to the all-conference academic team for two seasons and also being selected to one all-tournament team for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
While coaching here at Southern, Coach Jones has had one player to be selected in the Major League Draft, CF Lance Jones. Over the past four seasons he has been involved in over 20 student-athletes earning their degrees. He lives by the quote "Preparation Meets Opportunity". Coach Jones is the father of Trace Daniels and fiance' Kelly Thomas live in Baton Rouge, LA.
