BATON ROUGE - Southern University soccer defeated Alcorn State, 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Park.
Southern improves (4-10-1, 3-5-1), Alcorn State falls to (0-15-0, 0-9-0)
The Jaguars got ahead of Alcorn early. Love' Tover scored for the Jaguars making it 1-0 at the 17-minute mark. Tover's goal was assisted by Miamour Mesa.
Freshman, Miamour Mesa recorded her third goal of the season giving her team a 2-0 lead at the 22-minute mark.
Freshman Surya Nero got her first goal of the season. Nero scored advancing the Jaguars lead to 3-0.
Southern outshot Alcorn State 21-12. Alcorn posted 9-8 shots on target advantage. Goalkeeper, Alayna Grey had 9 saves out of 9 shots on goal. Grey recorded an entire 90-minutes in Sunday evening's game. Southern held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Jessenia Rivera recorded her second of the season within a two-game streak. Rivera scored giving the Jaguars a 4-0 lead at the 49-minute mark.
Taylor Coleman scored the last goal of the night for her team, recording her second goal of the season. Colemen gave her team a 5-0 lead at the 59-minute mark.
