Southern University Lady Jaguars was not able to hold Texas Southern University Lady Tigers surge of momentum in the second half dropping their first conference match of the season 2-0.
The Lady Jaguars controlled the match out the gate, keeping the Lady Tigers flustered and unable to generate any offensive opportunities. SU outshot Texas Southern 3-2 and Southern missed on a chance to score on a free kick before intermission when the referee halted the half which took the steam out the Lady Jaguars.
While Southern opened the second half a bit sluggish, Texas Southern pounced quickly, capitalizing on a header by Briana Norwood off of a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead eleven minutes into the second half. The Lady Tigers' second goal came off an identical shot, a header by Alisa Holloway off of a corner kick volley at the 68' minute.
Southern University recorded five shots with two on goal. Texas Southern recorded a total of nine shots in the second half connecting on two.
The Lady Jaguars will have a quick turnaround when they face Prairie View A&M University Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m. at Jaguar Park. Last season, Southern pulled the upset defeating the Lady Panthers 1-0 in the final minutes to give PVAMU their first loss in their new home stadium on October 21, 2016.
