BATON ROUGE - Southern head coaches Roman Banks and Sandy Pugh will recap the Jaguars recent 2-game home win streak and preview their final game of a 3-game homestand Wednesday during 'Full Court Press' at 2:55 p.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
Members of the media are permitted to film the final 15 minutes of the women's practice at 2:40 p.m. and the first 15 minutes of the men's practice until 3:30 p.m.
Both the men's and women's programs are coming off blowout wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State in the F.G. Clark Activity Center. The women's basketball team crusied to a 51-32 win over Alabama A&M last Saturday before throttling Alabama St. 71-51 Monday.
Roman Banks and the men's basketball program continued the surprising run with a gutty 75-69 overtime thriller against Alabama A&M and a solid 68-56 win over Alabama State. The Jaguars are one win away from matching their win total of eleven from the 2007-08 season.
Southern will look to remain in the hunt for a SWAC regular season title when the Jaguars host Alcorn State Jan. 28. Saturday's conference doubleheader, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff, will be broadcasted live on Cox Sports (Cox cable channel 37, HD-1037).
Saturday's games offers fans with a unique opportunity to generate buzz for Southern basketball. The women's game has been dubbed the Pack The House Challenge in conjunction with the NCAA's fifth annual women's basketball promotional event that pits teams from the SWAC and all across Division I in comeptition for a chance to be the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Pack the House Challenge Champion and win great prizes.
The men's game is being dedicated as "Remember Bobby Phills" night in honor of the former Southern and NBA star who passed away in an automobile accident in 2000.
