Houston, Jenkins qualify for NCAA Track Prelims

INDIANAPOLIS — Freshman sprinter Devin Jenkins will join junior thrower D'Wayne Houston as the duo represents Southern University men's track at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships.

The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants for the Preliminary championships competitions, which will be held May 23-25. Houston and Jenkins will compete in the East region held at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. with the remaining field in the West region competing at Texas in Austin, Texas.

The qualifiers out of these regions will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. 

Jenkins, a native of Hawai'i, qualified to compete in the men's 100 and 200 meter dash after running 10.38 and 20.92 respectively at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend. Houston, who is the Southwestern Athletic Conference men's indoor and outdoor Most Outstanding Field performer, qualified for the men's shot put with a distance of 17.80 meters.
